At the first sight, Joe Hughes appears to be an ordinary five-year-old boy. However, anyone who observes him more closely will quickly find that he is reluctant to speak out and rarely spends time with peers. Instead, he preferably pulls back, and isolates himself from the others listening to his favourite music with his headphones. Joe is a walking encyclopaedia of songs on his iPod, keeping track of every measure with absolute attention. However, he does not think much of contact with other children. His parents, Alison and Paul, are very worried about Joe’s obvious communication problems and eventually take him to the hospital. At first, they assume that he has hearing problems, but then he is diagnosed with autism.
